Aaron Dumas, an Associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, advises and represents clients to help them achieve success in a variety of fields.  He has been named a 2019 and 2020 Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Civil Litigation, frequently handling matters involving state and local government actors and policy.

Aaron represents clients in state and federal litigation, administrative proceedings, and private arbitration and mediation.  He has successfully helped employees vindicate their rights, citizens’ groups protect environmental resources, and victims of First Amendment and other civil rights abuses obtain justice. See Wisconsin Now v. Kremer, 354 F. Supp. 3d 940 (W.D. Wis. 2019).  Aaron has helped win significant victories for the public in open government cases. See Lueders v. Krug, 2019 WI App 36; Hagen v. Board of Regents, 2018 WI App 43.  He is also experienced in criminal defense and transactional law and in government relations. 

Aaron has frequently presented on legal issues before various state and local organizations, including teaching at the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Health, Labor & Employment Law CLE conference, and co-authored an article in the January 2020 edition of Wisconsin Lawyer (“Social Media, the First Amendment, and Government Actors,” with Christa Westerberg).

With a Master’s degree in Public Affairs and experience in the State Capitol, Aaron brings a thorough understanding of public communications and policy development to the practice of law.  Aaron’s diverse background includes experience in project management in health care IT and as a legislative aide in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In law school, Aaron held internships with Justice N. Patrick Crooks of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Wisconsin Legislative Council, served as law clerk for the University of Wisconsin System, and worked on the Legal Assistance to Institutionalized Persons Project and the Unemployment Appeals Clinic.

Aaron is admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin and to the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.
